  • fix the air again and again - 1996 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Had to repair the air the first year I had it and the 2nd year and the third and 4th year. Warranty ended and I gave up on being cool because repairs only lasted one year. Had to replace water pump, radiater, cat converter and radio around 100,000. But she still looks good.

Bought it with 111k miles, love it. Exhaust manifold was replace by previous owner as was A/C leak, several rubber joints in the suspension, had real seal on difference replaced ($50). In lin e6 has lots of power. Low gas mileage 13.2 mostly in town. Rides great, very comfirtable seats in front, kinda of small in back (typical mid-size anything).

I have a 1996 jeep grand cherokee it is a 5.2l beast that puts trucks to shame. Goes any where anytime and always kills the competition. I have over 216k miles on her but all she needed so far is a water pump and some some new axle bearings. transfer case was never shifted into low until i got her at 200k miles some lil old lady had never taken her to play around in the dirt. transfer case is an achilles heel but works great if you take care of it. Tows great, sounds like a beast, does better of road than tradition cjs and tjs im always pulling those out of mud. Some beefy tires and a cold air intake give it some traction and better power and fuel economy.Who needs roads when you have a jeep

  • Pretty Darn Good So Far... - 1996 Jeep Grand Cherokee

I just bought myself a 1996 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited the 5.2L V8 about a month ago. So far it has been good to me. I got a really good deal on it and knew it needed a little work. I replaced the valve cover gaskets and the front right axle seals and now its running very well. It could have a bit nicer interior, but much like Chrysler for the ninetys the interiors are a little cheap. The performance makes up for it though!! (At the cost of fuel) I Love It So Far!!!

  • Its A Jeep! - 1996 Jeep Grand Cherokee

If you know Jeeps, theres not much to explain. The car comes super loaded, more so than most new cars now. With the V8, gas mileage isnt too great, about 16 mpg, but what do you expect. The only problem Ive ever had on mine (now at 98,000 miles) is the heated seats which seem to have a tenancy to go out every couple years even if you keep getting them fixed. But most cars dont even have them in the first place so its not a big deal to just not have them. To me, its one of the best looking SUVs ever made with comfort to match. Even at 10 years old, its everything you need in an SUV. Recommended to anyone not worried about gas mileage.

  • Maintain it - 1996 Jeep Grand Cherokee

I love my Grand Cherokee! It is a very spacious and comfortable SUV. The Jeep is great off-road. Being a Jeep expert, make sure the Jeep has been maintained. Both the Inline-6 and V8 have seen 300k miles in many instances. The drivetrain and suspension are of less quality. The trannys are prone to break, some at 90k miles and others at 200k miles. Never get a tranny flush or a radiator flush! Both components will likely fail. The 1993=1998 Grand Cherokee (ZJ) is maintenence-intensive. Mine has 135k miles, has required a new steering box, starter, battery, steering stabilizer, many brake components, shocks, and various bushings in the front suspension. Great Vehicle for the expert.

I purchased my Grand Cherokee new in October 1995. Although mileage is a low 66,000, it has been a very reliable vehicle. The Grand Cherokee performs just as well today as the day I purchased it. Jeep Quadratrack and stength of V8 engine proved to be a very good combination both on road and off. Thumbs up to Jeep!

  • Thank God it was a Jeep! - 1996 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Best truck EVER! Bought as a traded in lease with 40K miles on her and very few problems. Crossed the country towing a trailer, trucked across the outback of New Mexico no problems. This Jeep did it all with ease. handed her down to my son who beat the crap out of it and still ran great with over 225K miles on her she saved my sons life when a wrong way driver hit him in a 160 mph head on collision. The Jeep stood up to the test and not even the windshield broke, my son walked away with one broken arm. Im sorry to say the other driver was not so lucky, may he rest in peace. I bet his family wished they gave their son a jeep. Im looking for my next one now.

I have replaced all of the anxillary parts, e.g. battery, alternator, power steering pump, water pump (2x),... My biggest complaint is that the A/C gets clogged with leaves. I had to "gut" the dash to replace the evaporator. I did it myself only because I was a student at the time and couldnt afford to pay $1,000 in labor to install a $100 part. It taxed my shade-tree mechanic capabilities, however.
